Dental Implants
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that provide a permanent base for fixed or removable replacement teeth.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are an effective and popular option for replacing missing teeth. They consist of a small titanium screw that is surgically placed into the jawbone to serve as an artificial tooth root. A crown, bridge or denture is then placed on top of the screw to create a natural-looking replacement tooth or teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions
The process take 3-6months depending on healing time after placement of the titanium screw. The crown fit stage is when the ‘actual tooth’ will be fitted, this is nearer the end of the process.
For more information, each stage is listed on the implant referral pathway letter in a pack that you're given at our dental practice.
For a small additional fee we can make an essix retainer, which is a clear removable appliance, to fit your arch and include some composite filling in the missing tooth space. This gives the appearance of a real tooth whilst leaving the site to heal underneath.
At Tovey and Little we offer finance through a company called Tabeo. This allows you to pay via monthly direct debits and slowly pay off your treatment. The first 12 months is interest free making it the same price in total as if you paid in one lump sum. This is a manageable way to fund your dental implant.
For more information refer to your finance letter in your pack.
The process is done under local anaesthetic. This wears off within 2-4 hours after the procedure and we find patients manage any lasting discomfort with paracetamol and ibuprofen well.
For more information refer to your finance letter in your pack.
Depending on your job and the responsibilities it holds you are likely to be able to work. We advise no strenuous activity or exercise for the first two - four weeks after placement.
If you have a desk job you will be fit for work the day after placement. If you are a labourer, it might be wise to book a few days off.
The main appointment in your implant journey is the placement of the titanium screw. For a single implant the appointment takes around 45 minutes but the placement itself takes around 20 – 30 minutes.

On average dental implants can last 20 – 30 years with the correct hygiene care and regular dental checkups.

Our surgeon does not place implants on patients who choose to smoke. Smoking affects the long-gevity and success rate of the implant. Placements are far more likely to fail and cause further dental complications, so it is not the best form of treatment for smokers.
There are a few other options for filling the gap of your missing tooth, however it is all dependent upon the patient’s individual dentition. A dental bridge or denture could be an option to fill your tooth space, however an implant is the most like for like replacement.
