National guidelines have recently been introduced for treating patients with active Herpes Simplex (Cold sores).
Patients who attend for dental treatment appointments with active herpes Simplex will be asked to postpone their appointment to reduce the risk of cross infection within the dental staff.
These include herpetic whitlow and occular herpetic infection.
Whilst it is at the discretion of the individual dentist, if they feel following an assessment that the risk is relatively low (eg: no active vesicles ) simple procedures like examinations may be carried out.
Patients contacting the practice should postpone their appointment if they are not in any pain, If you have acute symptoms requiring emergency assistance, appointments may be booked but the treatment will be at the discretion of the dentist.
